“Trump is demonstrating that you cannot trust the US: China and Europe will not let it benefit,”
Adam Posen, president of Piie, has warned that recent US tariff policies not only increase global trade, but have caused a loss of confidence in the country's reliability as a partner. He points out that agreements such as the T-MEC have been ignored by the Trump administration itself, which leads to members such as Mexico, Canada, the EU or China to reduce its US commercial dependence.
They also affirm that tariffs are diverting and reducing global commercial flows, increasing production costs and weakening demand. In addition, it emphasizes that, unlike usual, the dollar has weakened in front of other currencies due to the growing perception of instability and lack of competition in American economic policy.
