“Trump has only one tariff objective: strangular to China and reach agreements with the rest”
Antonio Camuñas, founder of Global Strategies and former president of the Spain-Eeu Chamber of Commerce, defends the good will of Donald Trump, moving away from the polarized media image that is often attributed to him. According to him, Trump is clear that tariffs are a tactical tool to counteract the advantages that China has accumulated for decades, and its ultimate goal is to reach agreements that protect US interests. Tariffs, in this sense, would not be an end, but a means to force China to reactivate their internal consumption and to behave as a more loyal business partner.
Regarding China, Camuñas offers forceful criticism, qualifying the country as a society with an opaque and misleading system. It emphasizes that China has built an economy based on mass production and the commercial surplus, but without generating real well -being for its population, which lacks a minimum social security network. In addition, he points out that part of these surpluses have been destined to strengthen their army and its global influence, while internal consumption remains weak. Compare the Chinese situation with that of the Soviet Union in its last years, a system that appeared strength but that hid serious structural weaknesses.
