Russian Foreign Minister Serguéi Lavrov said Tuesday that US President Donald Trump has approached the war in Ukraine “with greater depth” after his recent meeting with Vladimir Putin.
According to the head of Russian diplomacy, Washington would have understood that in order to move towards a sustainable peace scenario it is necessary to eliminate the deep causes of the war. At this point, Moscow has maintained for years that the main root of the conflict is in the Ukraine candidacy to enter NATO, an issue that, in his opinion, should be on the table in any serious negotiation.
Lavrov stressed that Trump and his team seem to bet on a “long -term, sustainable and reliable” result, a strategy that, according to Kremlin, contrasts with the European position. “While in Europe, only a high immediate fire was insistent, at the same time it was guaranteed that weapons supplies would continue to arrive at kyiv,” he said.
These statements point to a change in tone in Moscow's speech regarding Washington. Russian diplomacy values the role Trump would be playing at this time of the conflict, projecting the image of an interlocutor willing to go beyond the momentary containment measures.
In the absence of official confirmation from the White House, the Lavrov message reflects the interest of the Kremlin in strengthening the idea that the United States, under the presidency of Trump, is emerging as an actor with the willingness to seek solutions of greater draft, away from what they qualify as European short -term.
The political and diplomatic background continues to be complex, but the words of the Russian minister add a new chapter to the narrative of a conflict in which the balance between high fire and structural negotiation continues to mark the international agenda.
