Last hour | Powell returns it to Trump: “If it weren't for the tariffs, we would have lowered types”
The president of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, has launched a message that looks like an indirect response to the president of the United States, Donald Trump. Powell has affirmed that, if not for the tariffs imposed by the Government, the Fed would have already lowered interest rates.
During his speech, Powell clarified that the Central Bank is not inactive, but has decided to take time to evaluate the real impact of commercial measures on the US economy. In particular, he referred to tariffs as a key uncertainty factor and pointed out that their effects will begin to be noticed especially in inflation from summer.
