NFTs are coming to Instagram ‘in the short term’, according to Zuckerberg

mark zuckerberg is determined to accelerate your immersion in the field of blockchain. The CEO of Goal has announced within the framework of the South by South West (SXSW) 2022 Conference that the Non-fungible tokens (better known as NFTs) are coming to Instagram very soon. In this way, what has long been an open secret is confirmed.

NFTs on Instagram were imminent

The advance of this project had already been given by the magazine Financial Times in mid-January this year. The aforementioned medium reported in its report at the time that both Facebook and Instagram would become «a place where users can create and sell these digital assets«.

But despite this confirmation, Mark Zuckerberg did not want to give too much detail during his conference. What is known is that integration of non-fungible tokens on Instagram is currently under development; Although at the moment the Instagram team is focused on solving some technical problems that have arisen along the way.

“We are working to bring NFTs to Instagram in the short term. Today I am not ready to announce exactly what it will be, but in the coming months you will have the possibility to bring some of your NFTs. And eventually you’ll be able to lie within that environment,” Zuckerberg said from SXSW.

In fact, Adam Mosseri, responsible for Instagram, had already hinted at the possible arrival of NFTs on the platform long before. The executive assured last December that the company was “exploring” the possibility of giving space to these elements; with the purpose of get a greater reach in new audiences, ensuring that “it is an interesting place that we can explore to help creators”.

But now, everything seems to indicate that the company has already made the decision to adapt this new format on Instagram.

Zuckerberg’s plans: Instagram, NFTs and the metaverse

During the nearly 50-minute conversation at SXSW, Mark Zuckerberg spoke largely of his metaverse. In fact, one of the points that the controversial CEO of Meta mentioned in his presentation was the ability of the metaverse to convert almost anything into a non-fungible token that is subsequently traded by the same users. For example, Zuckerberg hopes that “the clothes your avatar wears in the Metaverse could be coined as NFTs and you could wear them between different places.”

In this way, the NFTs that users obtain in the future either on Instagram or on Facebook I know could turn into “functional” objects within the company’s metaverse.

Meta platforms are not the only ones within the social media world that are highly interested in including NFTs. For example, Twitter recently activated the use of NFT images as hexagonal-shaped profile photos (to differentiate them from the usual ones on the platform) for those users who have a subscription to Twitter Blue, which is the premium alternative of the social network of the little blue bird.

For its part, Youtube has also expressed interest in NFTs; In fact, they are already included among the proposals they have up their sleeve from the Google video service for this 2022.

Despite the divided opinions of the people regarding them, NFTs are gaining more and more strength and popularity. From actors, to businessmen or even athletes, they have gradually joined multiple types of NFT content and have presented collections of this type of work. However, it is no longer just these types of well-known personalities, but more and more there are people who want to get their own NFT.

However, most of the criticisms towards these NFTs have to do with the fact that many do not see a real use for them and as they are part of an unregulated market, the prices of each token can be constantly changing from one day to the next and reach millionaires As there is no center that is capable of regulating and arbitrating prices, it is the people and their interest in certain NFTs that are responsible for establishing the value.
